Senior Front End Developer (NextJS)

  • Hybrid
    • Rotterdam, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands

Job description

Rotterdam - In this role as a senior frontend developer you will help create the best experience for delivering news to our readers.

On a daily basis our content reaches millions of users, making DPG Media the biggest media house of The Netherlands and Belgium. We have built a white-label platform for web and app which serves our 2 biggest national news brands AD.nl and HLN.be, as well as 8 regional brands in the Netherlands and Belgium. You will join one of our 3 teams and build technology with Next.js and Typescript.

About the team

You will be part of a cross-functional and agile web development team that consists of developers and UX’ers of many different nationalities. So, our communication is in English.

Our home base is our Rotterdam office - located right next to Rotterdam Central Station - and close to our editorial staff and other digital teams that work on this platform. On Tuesdays, we have our office day, and most other days, we work from home.

What you will be doing

You’ll be working in a full-stack team, both web and in the future app development, to deliver new features like flexible homepage, article preview and article enrichments. Everything to enrich the experience for our visitors and enable the editorial team to bring the news in the best possible way. You will also be working together with other front-end developers from different teams.

While building new web frontend features for our platform, you will always strive for the best code quality and apply the necessary security measures. You will also work closely with the Product Owner, our (UX) designers, and business stakeholders. Your main tasks are:

You build it, you run it: designing, coding, testing, deploying, implementing new features and doing day-to-day operations for all our websites

Identify bottlenecks and improve the system to make it more robust, scalable and work fluently.

Share knowledge with our other web frontend developers and together make sure our platform grows and moves in the right direction.

Who you are:

For this position, we expect a senior level of maturity and at least 4 years of experience with high-traffic websites and NextJS. Naturally asking questions and proactively giving suggestions to see where you can add value. We’re looking for someone who likes taking initiative with a collaborative attitude.

You have deep knowledge of NextJS and Typescript and optional: Design System, basics and UX/UI development
