Amsterdam - As a machine learning engineer in our team, you will be serving millions of recommendations per day in video platforms and news platforms. Our mission is to improve the relevance of our digital products to our customers by providing them with the content they want, whenever and wherever they want it.

About us
The Recommendation & Search Area houses all expertise around personalised content recommendations and search within DPG Media. We are a team of Machine Learning Engineers that develop & maintain a collection of APIs that can power all of our News and Video platforms. Our teams are based in Vilvoorde, Belgium and Amsterdam, The Netherlands. We work in an agile philosophy and are open to remote and flexible working regimes.

The entire team is responsible for the operations of our services. This includes actively monitoring different applications and their infrastructure as well as intervening to solve operational problems whenever they arise.

We work with: Python, Scala, Bash, RDB, Kafka, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Redis, PySpark, SciPy, NumPy, Elasticsearch, and Airflow.

What you will be doing
You will work alongside a team of ML Engineers on some of the most innovative ML applications in the region and industry. DPG Media is the local media champion, meaning you will work on some of the most impactful products around. Your main responsibilities:

  • Maintain and extend our Recommendation back-end, supporting the entire DPG Media product landscape

  • Act like a mentor and lead by example in domains like code quality, efficient design and operational monitoring

  • Actively participate and run brainstorms to improve both our back-end and our algorithms

  • Design, develop, run and evaluate online A/B-tests

  • Support operational excellence through practices like code review and pair programming

Job requirements

Who you are

  • Multiple years of experience developing Machine Learning components at scale in a production environment

  • Familiar with basic concepts of statistics and probability theory

  • Experience delivering APIs and libraries in Python, Scala or Java

  • Experience in Python and key libraries such as pandas, PySpark, SciPy, NumPy

  • Experience with Docker / Kubernetes / AWS is a plus
