Senior Front-end Developer

  • Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, Nederland

Amsterdam - In this role as a senior frontend developer you will help create the best experience for delivering news to millions of users. You will join our team that works on the Digital Article and build technology with Next.js and Typescript.

About the team
Our Selectives teams create the best user experience for our premium publishing brands: De Volkskrant, Trouw, Het Parool, De Morgen, HUMO, Margriet, Libelle, Flair and Donald Duck. We are building and running a white-label platform for all these brands including web, mobile, tablets, and backend. In total we have 6 teams. The Digital Article team consists of a front-end developer, back-end developer, 2 app developers, a tester, UX designer and a product owner. You will also be working together with other front-end developers from different teams.  Currently we're working at the office every Thursday. Most other days we work remotely.

What you will be doing
You will build web frontend features for our platform while always striving for the best code quality and applying security measures. The features are meant to give editors more tools to enrich the articles they publish. For example: slideshows, expand functionalities or biographies. You will also work closely with the Product Owner, our (UX) designers and business stakeholders. Your main tasks are:

  • You build it, you run it: designing, coding, testing, deploying, implementing new features and doing day-to-day operations for all our websites

  • Identify bottlenecks and improve the system to make it more robust, scalable and work fluently.

  • Share knowledge with our other web frontend developers and together make sure our platform grows and moves in the right direction

Who you are
For this position, we expect a senior level of maturity and some years of experience with high traffic websites. Naturally asking questions and proactively giving suggestions to see where you can add value. We’re looking for someone who likes taking initiative with a collaborative attitude. You have deep knowledge of:

  • React
  • Next.js
  • Typescript

And experience with:

  • Storybook

  • Monorepo

  • Jest / Playwright

  • Nodejs

  • WAI (Accessibility)

We offer

  • An experience-based salary

  • 12% personal choice budget (of which is 8% holiday allowance)

  • Participating in profit every year.

  • 36-hour working week

  • Over 350 training opportunities in our own academy. We also pay for your training that isn't in our academy. If you'd like to become TOGAF certified, we'd be happy to offer you this.

  • Does a physical newspaper or magazine on your doormat make you happy? We offer you a subscription of your choice!

  • We also offer travel allowance, a flexible work allowance and a staff discount for specific options.

  • There is also knowledge sharing from our tech colleagues
