Amsterdam - As a Java Developer within our Selectives Area you will contribute to making sure our readers get the highest quality features. 

On a daily basis, our content impacts millions of readers, making DPG Media the biggest media house of The Netherlands and Belgium. We have built a white-label platform for web and app, desktop, mobile and tablet use. This platform services our premium news brands: De Volkskrant, Trouw, Het Parool, De Morgen and HUMO.

About the team

Our Selectives area is divided into 3 multi-disciplinary development teams. Consisting of App-, Web-, Back-end developers and QA Engineers. The teams work really closely with editors, marketing and product management to deliver the best product to our end-user. 

What you will be doing

Working with highly talented people, you’ll deliver the best news product to our readers. Because you’re working in a huge landscape with advanced technologies, you will keep on learning every day. You will build backend applications/features in the cloud while always striving for the best code quality and applying security measures. Your main tasks are:

  • Continuously develop and release new code to production within an Agile work environment
  • “You build it, you run it”; meaning you will take as a team full responsibility for delivering good working software and maintaining it.
  • Continuously improve our services to make them more robust, scalable and reliable.
  • Together with your peers, you define the software architecture of the services
  • Sharing knowledge within our group of backend developers and together making sure our platform evolves continuously

Our stack: Java 11, REST, Spring Boot, Maven/Gradle, Microservices Architecture, AWS Services, Hibernate and Docker.

Job requirements

Who you are:

You love learning new things and keep a close eye on technological evolutions. You are open-minded and critical with a no-nonsense approach: always looking for the ‘why’ of things. Also, you are passionate about IT and development, always focused on quality. What else we expect:

  • At least 6 years of professional experience with Java, Spring and AWS. You should be familiar with CI/CD, Security best practices and designing REST API’s.
  • Practical experience with Java 11+
  • Experience with test automation, contract testing and test-driven development.
  • You have a team-oriented Agile mindset and experience with Scrum and DevOps.
  • You are fluent in English and preferably speak Dutch on a professional level.
