Front-end developer

Rotterdam - As a Front-end Engineer within our Freemium/Entertainment Area you will contribute to making sure our users get the highest quality features and an excellent user experience.

On a daily basis our content reaches millions of users, making DPG Media the biggest media house of The Netherlands and Belgium. We have built a white-label platform for web and app which serves our 2 biggest national news brands AD.nl and HLN.be, as well as 8 regional brands in the Netherlands and Belgium.

What you will be doing
Working with highly talented people, you’ll deliver the best news product to our users. Because you’re working in a huge landscape with advanced technologies, you will keep on learning every day. Our front end will be undergoing some serious changes this year, so this is a key position. You will be working in a cloud based environment while always striving for the best code quality and applying security measures. Your main tasks are:

Continuously develop and release new code to production within an agile work environment. This also involves optimising (internal) code integrations from other teams (e.g. marketing, analytics & advertisement squads)
Building a component library on the basis of NextJS
“You build it, you run it”; meaning you will take as a team full responsibility for delivering good working software and maintaining it.
Continuously improve our services to make them more robust, scalable and reliable
Work with your UX colleagues to optimise for best effort / return value.
Together with your peers, you define the software architecture of the services
Sharing knowledge within our group of developers and together making sure our platform evolves continuously

Our current front end stack: Typescript,ReactJS, NextJS, hosted on AWS cloud.

Who you are:

You love learning new things and keep a close eye on technological evolutions. You are open-minded and critical with a no-nonsense approach: always looking for the ‘why’ of things. Also, you are passionate about IT and development, always focused on quality. What else do we expect:

• At least 5 years of professional experience with Typescript, ReactJS.

• You should be familiar with CI/CD and security best practices.

• Experience with test automation, (Cypress/Playwright/Cucumber)and test-driven development.

• Experience with server-side rendering

• You can work independently, but are never reluctant to ask for help or offer help to others. Reaching out to other teams or stakeholders comes natural to you.

• You are fluent in Dutch and preferably speak English on a professional level.

About the team

You will be part of a cross-functional and agile web development team that consists of 9 people from the Netherlands and Belgium. We speak Dutch to communicate with each other in the team and sometimes English with other teams. Our home base is our Rotterdam office - located right next to Rotterdam Central Station - and close to our editorial staff and other digital teams that work on this platform. Currently, we embrace a hybrid working model. We are one/two days day per week in the office, the rest we work from home.
