Amsterdam - As a Back-end Engineer within our Freemium & Entertainment Area you will be part of the backbone of the largest Media house in the Netherlands, making sure our end-users get the very best experience by providing the foundation that our Frontend- and App development teams can build upon.
Our Video, Audio and Games content reaches millions of users daily, which makes the challenges for our backend systems interesting and exciting.
We have built a white-label platform for web and app which serves our 2 biggest news brands , AD.nl and HLN.be, as well as 8 regional brands in the Netherlands and Belgium.
What are you going to do?
Your main focus will be to take a central role in the development and continuous improvement of our systems and applications. These include back office applications, APIs that support our clients, job processing for creating and updating relevant data, and in addition creating new APIs where needed and solving interesting business requirements within the team where thinking outside the box is something that is the norm rather than an exception.
As a backend team we like to keep aligned across teams to ensure a shared vision and alignment on the direction of our backend system and best practices.
This will enable us to make sure we can keep delivering the impeccable quality we have done for years and will continue to stay up-to-date with new developments in our preferred technologies.
Your main tasks are:
Development of our new API’s to support our clients, fixing bugs and participating in architectural decisions.
Maintaining the vision for the backend applications and alignment on the direction of development with the other development teams;
Looking for opportunities to improve the product and process;
About the team
You will be part of a cross-functional and agile web development team. We speak English to communicate with each other in the team. Our home base is our Amsterdam office and close to our editorial staff and other digital teams that work on this platform. Currently, we embrace a hybrid working model. We are two days a week in the office, the rest we work from home.
Who you are
You have experience and the following skills
5-7 years of experience maintaining and developing systems in production
(complex)Problem solving and critical thinker
Speak up and communicate effectively (due to partly remote working)
Autonomous self learner
Elixir/Erlang (or other functional languages),
Event driven architecture
Nice to have:
AWS / Akama
Phoenix Live view
