Android Developer - Entertainment

Job description

Amsterdam – As Android Developer Entertainment for our video- and audio product you contribute to the biggest digital news brands in the Netherlands and Belgium. The impact you make is huge and contributes directly to the user experience.

On a daily basis our content reaches millions of users, making DPG Media the biggest media house of The Netherlands and Belgium. At DPG Media, we work for more than 90 strong news brands, magazines, television shows, radio stations, and online services such as Qmusic, NU.nl, Tweakers, Libelle, and VTM.

The Entertainment Area has built a framework for web and app to serve all DPG brands with our video-, audio,-, puzzle and games products.

About the team

As a developer at the Entertainment area, you will build innovative software solutions which support our millions of visitors every day in their entertainment and relaxation. Together with the team, you will build on the biggest short-form video, podcasts, puzzles, (live)quizzes and games platform of the Netherlands and Belgium. Your effort services many of our large brands such as AD.nl, HLN.be and Volkskrant.nl, just to name a few.

The Entertainment Area has a strong ‘make it happen’ culture with driven, enthusiastic and dedicated professionals. We offer a high-performing tech workplace where we treasure freedom, from how you find solutions to choosing your path. Feel free to be an entrepreneur, an apprentice, a team player, and, of course, to be you.

You will be part of a cross-functional and agile development team which consists of 11 developers who serve both the backend, and the frontend for web and app. You will be based in our Amsterdam office. Currently, we all work from home which works really well. Once we can return to our offices we most likely will not require our development teams to be in the office 5 days per week but come to a more hybrid way of working.

What you will be doing

In this role you are closely involved with the product. Together with your colleagues you improve, maintain and add new features to our entertainment apps. Between sprints, you do refinements and search for new opportunities, tools and techniques to improve the product. You also continuously search for ways to improve the software development process. In this role you will:

  • Focus primarily on the development and maintenance of our Video and Audio SDKs, which have public facing APIs which get consumed by multiple teams over the company

  • Play an important role between development, the product owner and our (UX) designers as part of our team.

  • Work with other squads within the company to help them implement and maintain the SDKs

  • Basic knowledge of iOS

  • Experience in maintaining SDK and developing robust public facing APIs, that will be consumed by other developers in the organisation is a bonus

  • You have experience with Scrum or other Agile methodologies.

We offer

  • An experience-based salary.

  • 36-hour workweek.

  • Participation in the profit sharing arrangement.

  • Personal development opportunities such as education, training and certificates.

  • Location in Amsterdam (currently we work from home).

You are set out on a journey where every next week will be different from the last, and where you are stimulated on a daily basis to take things to the next level. You get the opportunity to keep reinventing yourself in an environment where continuous learning is the benchmark.
