Android Developer - AD.nl and HLN.be

Job description

Rotterdam – As Android developer you contribute to the biggest digital news brands in the Netherlands and Belgium. The impact you make is huge and contributes directly to the user experience.

On a daily basis our content reaches millions of users, making DPG Media the biggest media house of The Netherlands and Belgium. We have built a white-label platform for web and app which serves our 2 biggest national news brands AD.nl and HLN.be, as well as 8 regional brands in the Netherlands and Belgium.

About the team

You will be part of a cross-functional and agile app development team which consists of 8 people from different nationalities. We speak English to communicate with each other. You will be based in our Rotterdam office close to our editorial staff and other digital teams that work on this platform. Currently, we all work from home most days of the week and collectively work in our Rotterdam office on Tuesdays. We will continue with this hybrid way of working and will discover what the best home/office balance will be for our teams. Most likely, you will have the opportunity to work from home 3 or 4 days a week, but you're very welcome to come to the office each day."

What you will be doing

In this role you are closely involved with the product. Together with your colleagues you improve, maintain and add new features to the AD and HLN Android apps. Between sprints, you do refinements and search for new opportunities, tools and techniques to improve the product. You also continuously search for ways to improve the software development process. In this role, you will:

  • Focus on the development of the mobile Android apps, which have React Native components that we are gradually replacing with native technology.
  • Play an important role between development, the product owner and our (UX) designers as part of our scrum team.
  • Work with DevOps - "You build it, You Run it"! This means designing, coding, testing, deploying, implementing new features and doing day-to-day operations of our apps.

Even more reasons to work at DPG Media

At DPG Media, we work for more than 90 strong news brands, magazines, television shows, radio stations, and online services such as Qmusic, NU.nl, Tweakers, Libelle, and VTM. Although we look like a media group, we are really a tech company. We get digital transformation done.

We offer a high-performing tech workplace where we treasure freedom, from how you find solutions to choosing your path. Feel free to be an entrepreneur, an apprentice, a team player, and, of course, to be you. We welcome everyone to apply, whatever your background may be. A great bunch of smart colleagues awaits you and are eager for you to join the team, whether that be a project team, a pub quiz team, or a sports team.
