Java developer

Job description

Amsterdam - As a Java developer within our Selectives Area you will contribute to making sure our millions of readers get the highest quality features.

On a daily basis, our content impacts millions of readers, making DPG Media the biggest media house of The Netherlands and Belgium. We have built a white-label platform for web and app, desktop, mobile and tablet use. This platform services our premium news brands: De Volkskrant, Trouw, Het Parool, De Morgen and HUMO.

What you will be doing

Because you’re working in a huge landscape with advanced technologies, you will keep on learning every day. You will build backend applications/features in the cloud while always striving for the best code quality and applying security measures. Your main tasks are:

  • “You build it, you run it”: designing, coding, testing, deploying, implementing new components and doing day-to-day operations of all our backend components.
  • Identifying bottlenecks and improving the system to make it more robust, scalable and work fluently.
  • Sharing knowledge with our other backend developers and together making sure our platform grows and moves in the right direction.

Our stack: Java 8/11, REST, Spring Boot, Maven/Gradle, AWS Services, Hibernate and Docker.

About the team

The team you’ll be working in, is responsible for creating and maintaining features that our readers will be using. This is a cross functional, devops team so you will be the backend developer for the team working with frontend, app developers and QA engineers. With your team members you will work together closely, have a lot of contact and keep on improving.

“We want to offer the highest quality to our readers, we give our best every day and make sure we create the backend to keep on moving and improving”

We offer

  • An experience-based salary.
  • 36-hour workweek.
  • 12% in flexible benefits (of which 8% is holiday allowance).
  • A percentage of profit shares.
  • Reimbursement of travel expenses.
  • 24 paid holiday days.
  • Location in Amsterdam.
  • Fully paid functional technical training.

As the largest media company in the Netherlands, we are open to all talents in our society.
